KUMed repeater is back!

KUMed repeater is back!

April 22, 2022 WØFH

After a long absence, the repeater at the KU Medical Center campus near 39th and Rainbow Blvd (442.325) is back in the KCWide room. Thanks to Travis Marshall for all his help.

This repeater had been linked to Wires-X via an FTM-100 and computer located near the repeater in the hospital. Because of COVID, access to the equipment in the hospital became impossible. As most computers do, the on-site computer eventually required attention, and we found out that the KU Medical IT department had tightened their internet security and our remote control software no longer worked.

Travis (NIØY) was able to retrieve the linking equipment from the hospital and install it at his home, restoring the link.

New Fusion “Kansas City Wide” repeaters

New Fusion “Kansas City Wide” repeaters

April 18, 2022 WØFH

I am happy to announce we have some new repeaters in the “Kansas City Wide” room. With these changes you have really good coverage from KC to Topeka.

We just purchased (3) repeaters from the Kansas DMR group. We now have new repeaters in Topeka, Lawrence and Basehor.  As part of the transaction, we needed to change the frequency of the repeaters. Rick WØFH, Kris KUØS and I just returned from visiting the new repeaters and the transition is finished and they all seem to be working well.

Where these repeaters had been connected to the room part-time before they are now Fusion only 24/7.

For these kinds of changes to happen it takes great people. A special thanks to the KS-DMR group, Cort NØMJS, Gavin NØECQ, Rob WVØS, Brian KCØBS, Kris KUØS, Rick WØFH and Justin NV8Q for their help in making this happen along with a smooth transition.

The new frequencies are listed below as well as on the Web page. We hope this helps your coverage in your travels around the Metro area.

FYI, Thank you, Jerry Dixon, KCØKW

Basehor, KS, New 444.625, Old 444.750

Lawrence, KS, New 444.875, Old 444.375

Topeka South, KS, New 443.625, Old 444.9875

Special Guest Nets, April 7 and 14

Special Guest Nets, April 7 and 14

March 28, 2022 WØFH

Please join us in the Kansas City Wide room for two special events.

On April 7th, 2022, 7pm CDT (0000 UTC), we will be welcoming Larry Staples WØAIB to KCWide for an hour long net to discuss the history of ham radio in Kansas City and to answer your questions. Larry is the founder and operator of Larry’s List, one of the great resources for ham radio operators in Kansas City.

On April 14th, 2022, 7pm CDT (0000 UTC), we will be talking with Chet Halberg KØTCB, another of the long-time ambassadors of ham radio in Kansas City. Chet is the driving force behind the popular Hambash, the hugely popular hamfest sponsored by the Shriners here in Kansas City. This year’s Hambash is coming up on April 16th, and Chet will fill us in on the Shriners, the history, and what we’ll see this year.

Please mark these special nets on your calendar!
