New Nets!

New Nets!

May 4, 2023 WØFH

Great news! Lots of new nets showing upright here in Kansas City Wide:

The POTA Net is back! Join Steve KCØVYS at 8pm on Mondays to discuss your POTA gear, your contacts, or tips on activating/hunting!

Saturdays have been quiet on Kansas City Wide, but not any longer! On Saturday May 6th at 5 p.m. CST please welcome a new net “Food for Talk”. The program where farm families around the world share a little bit about who they are, where they live, and how they proudly grow or help feed our hungry world. “Food For Talk” is hosted by Boise Bob, K6OWF. Bob lives in Idaho, the state that potatoes call home. This should be a great net acknowledging some amazing people that make our world what it is today.

Also starting on Saturday at 6 p.m. CST beginning May 6th, the “Radio Check Net” will begin. Hosted by Chris KB2IDX, the net is designed to help people check out their radios. Included in that task Chris will be providing critical mic level reviews. As in: You’re too loud, or please turn it up. The goal being to try to get your voice to sound its best. We have all been there where one person is loud and the next person is soft. Chris (aka the Parrot) will try and give you an honest useful review. Chris also likes to help people learn about Fusion and Pi-Star systems. If you look at his QRZ page, he has lots of fancy digital radios. He will be happy to answer some of your questions when you stop by. It’s all about getting you launched on the digital highway.

I am also happy to report that the St. Louis “Gateway to the West’ net is really growing. It is on every Friday night at 8 p.m. CST. There are some wonderful people in the St. Louis area with a great ham radio heritage. The hosting crew has now grown to keep up with the expanding user base and includes John N0HKK, Chris KE0TTE and now Dolores KD0CIV. Please join them on Friday nights as a great transition into the weekend.

We’re always looking for great net hosts and there are still plenty of good time slots available. If you have an idea for a net and are willing to be the host, drop a note to Jerry KCØKW and tell him your ideas.

Hello North Florida!

Thanks to Jim Carr, KC4MHH, we have another great repeater in the America’s Kansas City Wide family! His repeater is located at 650 feet on a TV tower in Gainesville, FL. The frequency is 444.050. It will default to KCWide, but may be changed to other rooms on demand. This repeater can be reached by a mobile from as far away as Orlando.

Jim also runs a network of 8 other repeaters, including DMR and AllStarLink-connected FM repeaters. Look him up on the web at: http://kc4mhh.com/

New Ladies Net starting on Fusion

New Ladies Net starting on Fusion

September 28, 2022 WØFH

I am excited to announce a new Ladies Net that is starting on Fusion in the Kansas City-Wide Room called “Hammettes”.

The net will start with some great leadership and is poised to grow as a unique net.

“Hammettes” is the inspiration of Jennifer NØVVX, who is president of the Raytown Amateur Radio Club and Kristl KR1STL, who is the president of the Warrensburg Area Amateur Radio Club.

The net is for everyone, but the hope is to help make the ladies feel welcome and encourage them to join in on Ham radio. We hope you contribute to the net’s conversation.

Fusion and KC-Wide was selected to increase the nets coverage area to include people from all over to join in.

Please help us in spreading the word that “Hammettes” premieres on Tuesday October 4th at 8:00 pm, CST.

Lee’s Summit-West Frequency Change

Lee’s Summit-West Frequency Change

August 18, 2022 WØFH

The Lee’s Summit-West repeater has been upgraded and the frequency changed. The frequency is now 145.410 with a n negative offset. This was previously the frequency of the Louisburg repeater (which has been offline for some time).

The repeater list has been updated with the new frequency. When we’re able to restore the Louisburg repeater, it will be on 147.315.

These changes were required by the repeater coordinating bodies in Missouri and Kansas.

KUMed repeater is back!

KUMed repeater is back!

April 22, 2022 WØFH

After a long absence, the repeater at the KU Medical Center campus near 39th and Rainbow Blvd (442.325) is back in the KCWide room. Thanks to Travis Marshall for all his help.

This repeater had been linked to Wires-X via an FTM-100 and computer located near the repeater in the hospital. Because of COVID, access to the equipment in the hospital became impossible. As most computers do, the on-site computer eventually required attention, and we found out that the KU Medical IT department had tightened their internet security and our remote control software no longer worked.

Travis (NIØY) was able to retrieve the linking equipment from the hospital and install it at his home, restoring the link.

New Fusion “Kansas City Wide” repeaters

New Fusion “Kansas City Wide” repeaters

April 18, 2022 WØFH

I am happy to announce we have some new repeaters in the “Kansas City Wide” room. With these changes you have really good coverage from KC to Topeka.

We just purchased (3) repeaters from the Kansas DMR group. We now have new repeaters in Topeka, Lawrence and Basehor.  As part of the transaction, we needed to change the frequency of the repeaters. Rick WØFH, Kris KUØS and I just returned from visiting the new repeaters and the transition is finished and they all seem to be working well.

Where these repeaters had been connected to the room part-time before they are now Fusion only 24/7.

For these kinds of changes to happen it takes great people. A special thanks to the KS-DMR group, Cort NØMJS, Gavin NØECQ, Rob WVØS, Brian KCØBS, Kris KUØS, Rick WØFH and Justin NV8Q for their help in making this happen along with a smooth transition.

The new frequencies are listed below as well as on the Web page. We hope this helps your coverage in your travels around the Metro area.

FYI, Thank you, Jerry Dixon, KCØKW

Basehor, KS, New 444.625, Old 444.750

Lawrence, KS, New 444.875, Old 444.375

Topeka South, KS, New 443.625, Old 444.9875
